Evalutation

As an overview I did enjoy the majority of the tasks undertaken during this project. However there were a few I didn't like and some I loved.

The ones I found incredibly frustrating were the half drop repeat. The selection tools are very difficult to use and changing your canvas size to get rid of any white blocks from where you have moved your pattern is very difficult.

I really enjoyed making a pattern to put on my fashion illustration, I loved the style of dress I chose and putting my final design onto the dress was great because it was a pattern thats very representative of me and looks amazing.

On reflection I would have posted on my blog right after I did each task as I often didn't and then forgot how I did it and struggled to collect my memories of how it was done to type it up on my blog.

However I am very happy I with my newly learnt skills and I look forward to using them in future for my work, particularly using photoshop to create patterns and put them onto my fashion illustrations.

Final Pattern Design

Firstly, I scanned in a vogue tag and opened the image on photoshop and cropped to get the part of my image i wanted to be on my pattern. Secondly I added the filter 'smudge' to my image. I then defined the pattern and resized it to 2cm width and 5cm height. I defined the pattern again and changed the canvas size to 20cm by 40cm. Finally I filled the canvas with my pattern to get this look.

I then created a half drop repeat of my pattern and then copied the pattern onto the layers of my fashion illustration to fill the dress and shoes with my pattern like so.

I didn't like how big the pattern was so a changed the scale so the pattern is a lot smaller. 

This is my final design pattern and I'm very happy with it because its very representative of me as it portrays my keen interest in high fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle.

Fashion Illustration

Firstly I found a picture of a model in a plain black dress on the internet and opened the image in photoshop. Then I selected the dress using the magic brush tool. I then added a layer of my desired pattern and adjusted the scale of it to make it smaller to create the look i wanted. Finally I adjusted the hue saturation to change the colour of the shoes to red.

                                                                                                                                                                     

Seamless block repeats offset

Seamless patterns are block repeats that have blurred lines between the squares. Firstly I used the smudge tool, brush tool and the clone tool to make the pattern more seamless and more abstract. I then altered the hue saturation to create different colour ways of the pattern.

Half Drop Repeat

Firstly I moved the second column using the marquee tool and put the grid onto the screen. Secondly I dropped the selected column down two rows and repeated this to every other column. Finally I changed the canvas size in order to remove the white spaces, and this was my final outcome. 

Screen Shots

When one wants to upload images to the internet, the original size of the image when used in photoshop is not suitable. Therefore, screen shots are paramount to make the image size small enough to upload to the internet.

I screen shotted my work by pressing Command>shift>4 then select the part of the screen you want to screen shot.

Block Repeat Pattern

Firstly, I opened one of my cropped images and checked the size of my image was 5cm x 5cm with a 150dpi resolution.

I then selected all of my image by pressing select > Select All.

Thirdly, I gave my pattern a title by going to Edit > Define Pattern (e.g Design 2).

Following on from this I changed the size of my canvas (page) to make it the size of an A4 piece of paper, by pressing Image > Canvas Size and entered a width of 20cm x 25cm > OK.

Then I filled the canvas with several repeated blocks of my pattern by going to Edit > Fill with Pattern > (my chosen pattern e.g design 2) and then i had a full canvas of several blocks of my chosen pattern repeated, a block repeat pattern.

Mirror Repeat Patterns

Firstly, I selected the Marquee Tool from my tool box and selected Fixed Size and changed the size of the image to 5cm x 5cm. 

I then changed my canvas size by pressing Image > Canvas Size and entered a width of 25cm x 40cm > OK.

Thirdly, I selected View> Snap to Grid and selected the second column in my design. I chose to use the Snap to Grid setting as it makes selecting the column a lot more accurate. 

Finally, I flipped the image horizontally or vertically to create a mirror effect by going to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal, and repeated this on all columns in my design to create a mirrored effect of the whole image.

Photoshop skills; Cropping, Re-sizing, Colour adjustments-Hue Saturation, Exploring Filters

I took this photo of me and Beth using photo booth, I then uploaded it to photoshop in order to edit the image. Firstly, I altered the size of the image from 45.16 in width to 28, this is essential when uploading photos to the internet as only a 72 DPI photograph is suitable.

Secondly, I cropped different sections of the photo to create new individual images.

Thirdly, I used the original image. alerted the hue saturation and layered, exploring with different filters in selected sections of the image.
