Creating patterns on Illustrator

Using my initial shoe design from my previous post I created my own unique pattern for a dress. I started by playing with the scale, rotation and colour of the shoe to create different looks, using a colour pallet of black and hot pink.

Fashion Flats - designing dresses using illustrator

I created these dress designs using illustrator, by adding my rulers to be able to get an idea of the measurements of the page and my design. I then moved my guide directly into the middle of the page, and locked this guide to avoid moving it whilst selecting other things. Using the pen tool I made my points and created curves to look like one half of a dress. I then used the reflect tool to create a mirror image of my garment and then joined the points on the neckline and hem of the dress to create a whole garment which looks like the ones I created below.

Illustrator - drawing shoes using layers

Working with Illustrator, I created outlines of shoes by using an image of a shoe and adding a second layer, making the first layer a 'template' and locking it to stop the image getting drawn on, and the second layer called 'drawing'. Using the pen tool i click and dragged and adjusted the lines to create curves to make a perfect outline of my shoe. I could then fill in the outline of the shoe with a colour or pattern of my choice.

Illustrator - making shapes

I used the shape tools to create my first column of shapes. Just by simply pressing each shape of tool and enlarging the shape to my preferred size and filling all the shapes with the my preferred colour.

Using the pen tool i created these shapes, by either pressing a point on each part of the page and joining them up or creating straight line anchors to create curves for shapes like the circle.

When using the dialogue tool I selected each of the shape tools and changed the inch and width to 50 to create this size, and for the triangle used the polygon tool but changed the amount of sides to 3.
